ABOUT 1350 Victorian students who missed out on a first-round tertiary offer last month secured a place in the second round of university and TAFE offers yesterday. But there were 123 fewer offers made than at the same time last year. The Victoria Tertiary Admissions Centre made 4412 offers, of which 1355 went to applicants who had not yet received an offer.

Scholarships

The aim of the fund is to support international cooperations, transnational partnerships and implement two-way mobility projects in order to enhance the Hungarian participation in the Lisbon / Copenhagen / Bologna processes and to increase the synergies with the national initiatives.  The proposal is financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism, the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and the Hungarian state budget. The co-ordinator institution of the proposal in Hungary is Tempus Public Foundation (TPF). TPF is responsible for the information service for the promoters, giving helping hand in the project writing phase and supervising the implementation of the approved projects.

Recognition

Hungary joined the European Union on May 1, 2004. As a full member of the EU, the country enjoys equal status to the other member states. It means among others that the degrees granted by the Hungarian universities are automatically recognized in all EU-countries. The EU directives list a few professions with common educational criteria. These are medicine, veterinary medicine, pharmacy and dentistry. Such professional qualifications must be recognized without any licensing examinations. (Certain language skills can be required, though.) The EU-recognition applies only to the nationals of the member states.

International students attending Hungarian universities include EU citizens from Germany, Scandinavia, Ireland, Greeceetc., and citizens from the U.S.A., Canada, Israel, Iran, Turkey, Japan, Australia.....

Hall of Fame

Semmelweis Hall of Fame includes Ignác Semmelweis, "The Savior of Mothers", and Nobel Laureates Albert Szent-Györgyi (1937, Medicine), György Hevesy (1943, Chemistry), György Békésy (1961, Physiology) and János Harsányi (1994, Economics).

Australian Medical Registration Australian and international candidates wishing to practice in Australia, will need to do the Australian Medical Council exams after graduation, offshore or onshore,  then apply for clinical placement and registration with State Medical Boards.

The programs in English at Semmelweis University of Medicine Budapest were instituted for students with a working knowledge of English. The programs begin in early September each year. The curriculum for each program is as follows: Medicine, six years; Dentistry, five years; Pharmacy, five years. The curriculum parallels the standard curriculum found in Hungary and most European medical, dental and pharmacy programs.
