"Croc flick to boost Territory tourism" A thriller about an 8m crocodile eating people is a boost for the Territory travel industry. Tourism NT said Rogue _ which has extensive shots of beautiful NT scenery _ would lure more visitors north, despite its many grisly scenes. 10 Nov 2007
"Toad lesson not Welcome in School Pool" Students at Darwin's Wanguri School are a good-natured lot - but they found it hard to like this monster cane toad. The toad was found in the school swimming pool. Teacher in charge Shirley Neve said: "The children looked at it and said, `Yuk, yuk, yuk!'. "They didn't like it at all." Teachers used the toad as an educational tool. Meanwhile, a leading academic has accused Darwin of being slow to meet the toad threat. 10 Nov 2007
"A City of Knockabout Charm" They do things differently in Darwin. Head to the beach in July and you're likely to find hundreds of would-be sailors trying desperately to stay afloat aboard makeshift boats constructed totally of beer cans, drop in to The Smith Street Mall on their national day and you could find the Queen's government representative engaged in a thong-throwing contest or come Melbourne Cup day you are likely to find a pub or two hosting cane-toad racing. It is iconic events and special characters such as these that give Darwin its knockabout charm and special place at the top of Australia. 22 August 2007
